Consumers warn against the sale of cannabis-laced gummies: "Consumption poses a serious health risk."

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has warned of the presence of the cannabinoid hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) and the psychoactive cannabis substance tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in confectionery products from the Netherlands sold in Catalonia , although distribution to other autonomous regions is not ruled out.

Specifically, the alert affects all packaged batches of three Happy Bites brand products : HHC Gummies (different flavors), HHC chocolates, HHC sex hearts, THC-P Gummies, HHC Gummies and HHC brownie.

Aesan has warned that these and similar products containing HHC or THC can be purchased in stores or online, and that their consumption poses a serious health risk.

Sometimes their labels include words such as "Not intended for consumption" or "Collector's item."

However, they are products that look like food and are therefore considered foods made available to the public, and are also especially attractive to children, according to Aesan.

This information has been forwarded to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through the Coordinated Rapid Information Exchange System (SCIRI) to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from marketing channels.

People who have the affected products, or any other products containing HHC or THC, in their homes are advised to refrain from consuming them.
